WWII Polish Living History Group accepted uniform regulations

10th Dragoon impression uniform guidelines

07/25/07

Written by: Christopher Petronis

Minimum combat uniform all considered priority one

I. Head wear
A. MkII Tommy helmet
Eagle stencil required
B. Black beret with metal or cloth eagle

II. Shirt - wool, collarless approved reproduction or original

III. Battledress jacket - it is expected that BD jackets and trousers will closely match in color.
A. BD jacket will be either P-37 or P-40 pattern, original, reproduction or appropriately colored British, Canadian, Greek, Norwegian, Dutch, South African.
B. All jackets will have correct 1st Armoured Division insignia on left sleeve and Lanark regimental patch on right sleeve. The badges should be positioned on the sleeve so the top edge of the badge is in line with the top edge of the breast pocket flap when viewed from the front.
C. All jackets will have appropriate collar insignia
D. All jackets will have Poland shoulder tabs, approved repro or original
E. All jackets should have a black shoulder lanyard on left sleeve, simple pattern for enlisted combat jackets.
F. All jackets will have a black wool epaulette on the left shoulder of the BD

IV. Battledress Trousers
A. Will be pattern P-37 appropriately colored British, Canadian, Greek, Norwegian, Dutch or South African.
B. P-40 pattern also accepted as ref'd in section A.

V. Foot wear - Either British or Canadian made period boots, reproduction or original. Leather soles and hobnails preferred

VI. Web gear – all web gear will be P-37 pattern with brass fittings and closures. Post war blackened hardware is not acceptable. Blanco not required.
A. Web belt
B. Bren pouches with brass snap closure
C. Braces set
D. Bayonet with frog
E. Canteen

VII. Weapons
A. Mk IV NoI Enfield with spike bayonet
B. Sten gun no later pattern than Mk III
C. Thompson sub-machine gun, with correct 10" barrel either 1928 pattern or M-1 pattern, must use 20 round mags, or drums for early war, no 30 round mags.
D. Browning Hi-power if appropriate for impression
E. .45 Colt if appropriate
F. Webley or Enfield revolver if appropriate

Personal gear priority one

I. Mess kit - Either period or postwar. Original war mess kits are good for living history display however the tin ware is often unsafe as it has a high lead content. For eating in the field and post war mess kit is recommended.
II. Grey wool blanket – Most plain, gray, wool blankets will do.
III. White sheets and pillow case for barracks impression
IV. Web Anklets – WWII dated or post war Dutch

Optional Uniforms

I. Walking out uniforms may be worn when off duty. All 10th Dragoon impressions for walking out for officer or enlisted will conform to historical authenticity. Due to the personal modifications made by members of the original unit many uniform adaptations within reason are acceptable. Suggestions are as follows:
A. Necktie with collared shirt
B. Black shoulder lanyard with more than one cord in braid.
*note no aiguillettes
C. Bullion Poland shoulder tabs
II. Denim uniforms - For warm weather events the only authorized uniform beyond the wool BD will be denim BD. Denim BD will have no rank, unit insignia or collar devices. A Poland shoulder patch is optional but not required.
III. Wool overcoat – WWII dated or post war Dutch, Greek, British, Canadian, Norwegian, South African to conform to WWII pattern. P-49 British is unacceptable.
IV. Leather jerkin – WWII dated or post war Dutch with correct button modifications.
Optional Web Gear second priority

I. Small pack with "L" straps
Note, this was not generally worn in combat due to transport in armoured vehicles and was therefore deemed unnecessary and often encumbered the men's movement.
II. Large pack with "L" straps
Note, this is good for hiding inauthentic gear inside a period tent but should not be worn in field as ref'd in section I.
III. Entrenching tool – Note this was often not worn as ref'd in section I.

Optional Personal Gear second priority

I. 64 Pay book – Reproduction
II Rain cape – British or post war Dutch
III. Toiletry roll to include:
• Tooth brush
• Eating utensils
• Shaving stick
• Shaving brush
• Razor
• Housewife
• Comb
IV. Socks –gray rag wool
V. Goggles – British WWII only
VI. Bivi tent – British WWII only
VII. Barracks bag – original or approved reproduction
VIII. Gas mask bag – Mk VII (early war), light weight respirator (late war)
IX. Helmet net
X. Late war British armoured helmet, eagle stencil optional
XI. Cap comforter
